Alchemist's Secret

I finished reading Alchemist's Secret (Scott Mariani, 2007, AVON) that I borrowed from the town's library. It is in the same genre as Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown). My impression: another wannabe.

It seems there is a high level of fascination with secrets and conspiracies. Other titles that I've seen included Gaudi's Secret (clues in the La Sagrada Familia?) and Shakespeare's secret. It seems that many of the great European scientists and artists harbour secrets that can change the world. Be it proving that God does not exist, the formula for elixir for life, the Holy Grail, King Solomon's treasure. While the scientists had obvious world-changing contributions, it is their 'secret' contributions that the authors are trying to uncover, or speculate.

A common thing that appear in these kind of books is the Christian Church. More common than not, the Churh is potrayed as the baddie that thwarted scientific, ideologies, and civil progress. All in all, these books are about European civilization with Christianity as the backbone.

What if similar genres, based on Islamic and Malay civilization make it big? Will we see 'The Taming Sari Code'?
