It is not really a choice, but it must be thought of consciously. Some people unconsciously behave like flies. They make fresh goods rotten. They could have made a conscious choice to be like salt; preserving the goods instead.
If you can't be like salt, don't behave like a fly.
If you can't clean up the house, at the very least don't make it dirty.
If you can't make people happy, at the very least don't make them sad.

there are however specific terms or words for annoying individuals like those: party pooper,wet blanket,killjoy,funsucker......take your pick! ;)
