Sun vs the Wind
Do you still remember the story about the sun and the wind? The wind boasted that it is a more powerful being than the sun. To establish its prowess, the wind suggested a test. Both of them saw a man walking. (bukan berjalan di bawah pohon asmara, ok?). He was wearing a long-sleeved shirt. The wind said, "I am powerful enough to blow that shirt off of him." And so, the wind started blowing, harder and harder. But tighter and tighter the man held on to his shirt. Then, the sun stopped the wind.
"Let me try," said the sun. So the sun started shining, warmer and warmer. The man loosened his shirt and finally peeled of his shirt. And the sun smiled at the defeated wind.
My take on the story:
1) The are external factors that can influence our behavior. Environments may make us do something, like holding on to our shirt during windy condition. It can also prevent us from doing something.
2) There are biological/internal factors that can influence our behavior. The sun causes physiological and biological reactions that make us want to take off our shirt.
What the story doesn't tell is the third factor. Which is just as important, if not more important. The third factor is the SOUL. A strong soul will not succumb to environmental and biological demands. The soul will only bow to those factors if they do not threaten the integrity of the soul. A muslim's (pure) soul will prevent the environmental and biological factors from influencing the muslim to perform sinful behavior. That's why (pure) muslims won't take off their shirt while walking around KL just because the weather is warm.
What does your soul tells you to do?
